‘Neon Knot’ – Kreo Home ‘LOCAL IS THE NEW BLACK’ Giveaway!

Let me introduce you to Kim Boardman,  the creator of ‘Neon Knot’ a place where you’ll find unique handmade Macramé wall art hangings & plant hangers….an ancient craft with a modern twist!

Kim lives on Queensland’s Central Coast, she’s a mother of two & is currently studying Interior Design.  Kim is clearly also a big lover of ALL things Macramé.   The art of macramé has become Kim’s ‘time-out’ & escape from the everyday.   I love that each piece is hand crafted, weaving and knotting….absolutely amazing & such patience! Every creation is unique, something I love! I made a lot of macramé at school….a long, long time ago…very cathartic and I loved its intricacies.

The craft itself is really quite basic, but there are so many variations is what can be created….no limits! The brilliant pop of colour in the ‘Neon Knot’ range put’s a modern twist on grandma’s vintage macramé.

It’s easy to make a statement with a ‘Neon Knot’ plant hanger indoors with a gorgeous fern or a succulent. They’re also a fantastic outdoor feature as they are made from a UV colour-fade resistant poly braid.

 IMG_8133

She has recently added some macramé wall art hangings to the collection. The process of knotting and weaving the fibres to create different texture, feel and colour contrast is something she has been really enjoying and will be pursuing further.

Kim is inspired by nature, life, my partner & my children and other creative people.

‘Studio Cockatoo’ – Kreo Home ..’Local is the new black’ giveaway!

Studio Cockatoo’  is small design space nestled deep, deep in the Sunshine Coast Hinterland in Queensland. This is where the husband and wife team of Luke & Kate Bordessa busily create beautiful geometric modern Art to adorn our walls.

All of their designs are created ‘in house’ and their range is constantly growing and evolving, as they predict trends in Interiors and Art….or just go with a ‘gut’ feel of what would be fantastic! Their works are colourful, some very quirky and a fun!

geometric pug

Kate & Luke are both Graphic Designers and have a very creative a background….it’s really been a logical progression that ‘Studio Cockatoo’ evolved.

Luke is a super keen Photographer and Kate is a sketch Artist……a combination made in heaven in my opinion! By combining these mediums and many, many hours working through ‘Illustrator’ and ‘Photoshop’ they achieve their incredibly striking works.

geometric blue budgie

They are often asked about their ‘design processes’ and what inspires them…it’s mostly nature and animals, as they attempt to capture their ‘style’ while working their pictures into a modern geometrical form.

BB3

I am a huge fan of ‘Studio Cockatoo’s’  work and already have 3 ‘Star Wars’ prints in my  collection of Art. My youngest son, Maxwell, said to me when I gave him his print….”Mum, this is my first piece of real Art”……Hmmm….. influenced by his mum perhaps?

BB1

Studio Cockatoo’s philosophy when it comes to design is ‘keep it simple & keep it fresh’. They do all of our their own printing and packaging in-house and wherever possible they use eco-friendly methods. The prints are also printed onto high quality archival 190 gsm paper. They also specialise in custom designs….so send them your favourite image to turn in a geometrical masterpiece!

BB2

Kreo Home stock Studio Cockatoo prints in their online store, and were stoked when they donated 5 prints in the ‘Local is the new black’ giveaway….how generous are they!

Make sure you pop over to their webpage and order away for Xmas…don’t you just love them!

Goosebumps Boutique Bedding.

When Goosebumps launched their boutique bedding range at Melbourne’s  Life Instyle trade-only event in August, it made a big impact! In fact, after a huge 4 days showcasing their wares, the Goosebumps stand was awarded ‘Best in Show’. How fantastic, especially for a business that’s less than a year old!

To see what all the fuss is about, check out the full range on the Goosebumps website.

IMG_3348.JPG

Prompted by a gap in the children’s boutique bedding market — she felt there was room for a whole lot more colour and fun — founder and designer Inga Rodd decided to look into developing a range. Around 12 months later, enter Goosebumps!
Melbourne-based Inga loves colour — and breaking the rules. Mixing colours and prints, the range has just the right amount of ‘quirk’ (not to mention the odd wild animal popping up on a doona cover)!

The range: It’s a Jungle Out There

IMG_3345.JPG

Zebra (reversible quilt cover & matching pillow case pictured above).

With sizes from cot to double bed available (at the moment) this collection covers a broad age range.

And (I absolutely love this) the doona covers are reversible! One doona, two looks — it doesn’t get much better, and is definitely something I look for when buying my linen.

IMG_3347.JPG

Inga has chosen some great names for the quilt covers too, including Roar (reversible quilt cover pictured above), Jungle, Zebra, Paw, Spot and Tot.
Even better, everything is made from 300 count 100% cotton. Perfect!

IMG_3346.JPG

Another thing I love about the range is the option of solid coloured fitted and flat sheets. Not in white, but mint and grey. Adding a plain sheet gives your eye a place to ‘rest’, and makes a hero of the patterned quilt cover.
Grey Paw pictured above and Mint Paw, below. (Both in reversible quilt covers with matching pillowcases.)

IMG_3343.JPG

Inga is a mum of twin 3-year-old boys, so she’s a busy, busy woman! She’s driven, and doing what she loves, something reflected in this beautiful range. Looks at her cute little guys pictured below!

IMG_3342.JPG

A quick Q & A with Inga!

How did the Goosebumps brand evolve?

Goosebumps evolved out of my pure love for all things colour — in manchester, interiors, fashion and homewares. My first collection, It’s a Jungle Out There, was in development for about a year before I decided to proceed.

It takes an incredible amount of strength, courage and determination to back yourself when starting a business.

I’ve got an amazing network of friends and family who encouraged me to ‘have a crack’. My husband, who is my business partner, was a tower of strength and Julia Green, from Greenhouse Interiors, has been a phenomenal mentor and now friend. I am very grateful!

I’ve always wanted to start my own business and knew it had to be something super creative. This is where I could develop many products and build a strong boutique bedding brand…and it enables me to work from home and set my own hours, whilst still being on ‘mum duties’.

How would you best describe your first Goosebumps range?

The Goosebumps SS/14 range (It’s a Jungle Out There) is my first ever collection. So, very exciting! This range represents a wild and wonderful jungle experience for your ‘little monkeys’.

Goosebumps is about producing vibrant, bold and fun bed linen for the coolest kids in town! We want to inject a certain level of playfulness and have unexpected designs that deliver a punch!

Colour was an integral part of my design process for the range as I wanted to create a fun bedroom experience for kids, where they could mix and match any pieces to create their own style, individuality and personality.

We shot the SS/14 campaign with the incredible photographer James Geer and ‘super stylist’ Aimee Tarulli from Greenhouse Interiors. I absolutely loved this creative process and we had the best day. It was great to work with such amazingly talented people.

What were your design influences for your first Goosebumps range?

My design influences for this collection were the jungle, animals and nature — and of course my twin boys who roar like tigers every day!

Are you pleased at how Goosebumps has been received since Life Instyle?

Goosebumps was launched in August 2014 at the Life Instyle trade fair at the beautiful Royal Exhibition Building in Melbourne. Life Instyle is a premier trade fair and such a great platform for new businesses to launch their products.

My experience there was very positive and I’m proud to say we have secured many of our dream stockists. To have the support from established stockists on a new brand was so encouraging and showed their ability to ‘take a punt’ on Goosebumps.

The support from other industry leaders was paramount and two examples stand out…

Kristy Withers from Incy Interiors took the time to come over and introduce herself and show her support for my launch. I was honoured, as she is someone I look up to in the industry.
Amber Clohesy, from Down to the Woods, also came and said hi and showed her support. Amber was very giving with her industry knowledge, and we have since caught up. These strong business women are two of the many people who I support and look up to. The fact that they took the time out to come and chat to me, a first timer, meant so much to me. Thanks ladies!

Tell me, is there anything new heading our way from Goosebumps?

I have just completed designing my next collection AW/15 and I’m very happy to announce that Goosebumps will be launching an adults range — the grown-ups will now get a chance to play with colour in their bedrooms! Goosebumps has many interesting ideas in development and we can’t wait to share them all with you
The future looks bright, just like our bedding!

What are your favourite interiors and homeware destinations in Melbourne?

  1. I love Jardan and Mark Tuckey for their original furniture pieces.
  2. House of Orange and Crate Expectations for all things wonderful for the home.
  3. Third Drawer Down for everything quirky and kooky.

Moët or Verve Clicquot?
Verve…actually anything French!

Beach or river?
We have a holiday shack in Angelsea, so definitely beach.

What’s your favourite holiday destination?
With kids, Port Douglas. Without kids, Mexico!

I can’t wait to see what’s next for Goosebumps and look forward to enjoying the ride with you!  Onwards & upwards…

Inga, thanks for taking the time to chat to me. I really appreciate it!
You have been a wonderful supporter of my blog The K J Collective, and of my love of styling, interiors and art!

Make sure you pop over and check out the Goosebumps website.

Freedom Furniture Geelong….what a great store!

How refreshing to have Freedom Furniture back in Geelong! The old store closed several years ago, and ever since, I think it has honestly been hard to find a one stop shop in Geelong for good furniture & homewares.

IMG_3168.JPG

The Freedom Spring Collection 2014 is all about lots colour, pastels, fun …& the odd cactus!
Spring to me means the beginning of warmer weather, BBQ’s , outdoor fun & entertaining!
These outdoor chairs are great, the red one has my name on it ….tick!
IMG_3175.JPG
Bright colours are on trend for outdoor entertaining, doesn’t it look great!

IMG_3172.JPG
Back inside the home the colour story continues…. Love a textured rug & there are so many gorgeous door mats, it’s always good to make statement upon entry to your home, well I think anyway.

IMG_3171.JPG

IMG_3163.JPG
I loved this cushion display, who doesn’t love a good cushion, my favourite was the green leaf print in this display. (#cushionaddict)

IMG_3176.JPG
In the bedroom, the tones are a bit more subtle, but you would easily brighten this look up with different cushions. Don’t be afraid to mix & match different colours and textures in your pillow cases & cushions….and don’t forget the bed throw!

IMG_3174.JPG

IMG_3169.JPG
I loved the subtle colour of this couch, the modular is a great option for many shoppers. I also love grey at moment…the artwork has to be seen to be believed, just gorgeous!
IMG_3173.JPG
Storage galore, in great colours too! There were plenty of plain baskets also available for those who prefer white / neutrals in their home.

7 Vignettes by Interiors Addict…let me tell you more!

All this year I’ve participated in the 7 Vignettes Competition run by Jen Bishop @ The Interiors Addict

It a ‘not so little’ competition anymore, with over 40k images shared on IG with the #7vignettes hashtag. Jen selects a guest judge at her discretion, to choose 7 words or ‘prompts’. These are usually released a few days prior to the end of the month, giving you a bit of time to prepare your pics, if your organised. The 7 Vignettes community enthusiastically create images or ‘vignettes’ describing the words chosen.

Each month my excuses range from….Should I? Shouldn’t I? I’m too busy? The prompts are too hard? I’m not creative enough? My pictures are so bad! …But, each month this year I’ve given it a go, and it’s fun, if you enjoy styling, creativity & photography. The overwhelming encouragement by other people taking part in the event always astounds me!

I’ve been employing the ‘5 minute’ set up rule this month, which has worked well. Sometimes the most simple pictures are the best I think!

The September 2014 7 Vignettes was guest judged by Mr Jason Grant, with his new book ‘Holiday at Home’ up for grabs, what a great prize!

IMG_2525.PNG ( image via The Interiors Addict)

These were the prompts this month…

IMG_2522.PNG

Here were my pics:

Day 1 – ‘Yellow’ – Being the first day of Spring, I thought it was appropriate I made this beautiful posy of flowers, which then featured as my consistent item in my pics this month. I also had to use my book by Mr. Jason Grant in my pics too!

IMG_2192.JPG

Day 2 – ‘Forever Summer’ – My image here featured ice creams, memories of Summer & enjoying warm weather!

IMG_2214-0.JPG

Day 3 – ‘Holiday’ – I styled a pictured with map of Italy, my flowers again featured, a place I’d love to visit one day & explore my husbands family culture.

IMG_2523.PNG

Day 4 – ‘Stripes’ – I kept this image pretty simple. I don’t have a lot of stripes in my home, or in many accessories. I found this one a bit tricky, but a simple posy with striped ribbons was my picture. It was my most popular pic of the round.

IMG_2264.JPG

Day 5 – ‘Nostalgia’ – I’m a collector of a few vintage pieces and recently found these fabulous Schweppes bottles. A ‘lay flat’ picture was a bit tricky as they kept rolling around. Pops of yellow again were my signature feature.

IMG_2267.JPG

Day 6 – ‘Family’ – My 2 boys love chatting about my pics & what I’m creating. We though a few little hand models would be cute in this one.

IMG_2346.JPG

Day 7 – ‘Four-Legged Friend’ – I don’t have a dog anymore, my old girl went to the kennell in the sky a few years ago. My husband bought me this after my love of the fantastic sculptor & mosaic artist ‘Pamela Irving’. Her bronze sculpture of ‘Larry LaTrobe’ features in Melbourne’s city square. Have a look at him next time you’re in the city. My ‘Little Larry’ sits quietly in my lounge room, creating little fuss!

IMG_2430.JPG

Here was my grid all together…

IMG_2434.PNG

The winner this month was Helen Hamilton , her blog is Quaint Envy Her entries were wonderful, lots of texture & pops of yellow in each shot! Congrats Helen!
Here was her grid…

IMG_2524.PNG

I wonder what excuse I’ll come up with next month…..no doubt I’ll participate again! Have a look at Interiors Addict on IG & check out all the details.

Getting ready for Spring…..

IMG_2010.JPG

This week has been great!
I often like to start it off with coffee at a local cafe….it’s amazing what catches your eye when you have time to look around.

IMG_1478.JPG

On Tuesday I popped over to the Inside Out Magazine #openforinspection event showcasing the Maxadesign home in Melbourne’s East. These were some of my favourite pics, I really love these rooms! ( you can read about it on a my blog in a separate post). It was a ‘tick the box’ moment when Inside Out Magazine shared my blog post on their Facebook & Instagram accounts, I was absolutely thrilled!!

I’ve had a colourful cooking week as well, here are some of my creations.

IMG_2121.PNG

I’ve also taken some time to try & finish re-styling Maxwell’s bedroom. His brief was; Colour, Fun, Starwars! He was a happy customer! We made some of the decorations in his room which he enjoyed!

I have also entered his room in Inside Out Magazines #sharemystylekidsroom & #sharemystylecolour competitions for a bit of fun!

I hope you’ve had a great week too!

✖️

Time to celebrate the weekend!

Start the week with coffee & end it with Champagne! It’s been a big week for us, time to put the feet up & relax. Hope you’ve had a great week too!

My week of Cooking ….

After a busy weekend, I visited the green grocer early on Monday after dropping off the kids to school. I visit Toscano’s in High Street, Kew..THE BEST….when I can’t get to the market.

Fruit & vegetable shopping was done in record time and I picked up some of the most amazing blubbererries. Inspired by this, I was determined to enjoy them all week ( & try not to share any 😉).

I particularly enjoyed them in my yoghurt with home made granola….delicious!

IMG_1435.JPG

My baking this week consisted of Molten Chocolate Chunk Brownies ( thanks Donna Hay), made from a packet mix in record time!

IMG_1447.JPG

I also made a delicious Banana Bread, again inspired by Donna Hay, but with a little tweaking. ( recipe on my blog in an earlier post)

IMG_1268.JPG

Inspired by a post from Yvette Wilson from The Stylist SplashI was hoping to make her Baked Chicken Dish which featured on her blog, as part of her challenge for ‘Salt & Pepper Bake Off’. But after getting prepared & chopping all my ingredients, I found one of the major ingredients missing! Bugger! So plan b came into play, a baked Portuguese Chicken Dish was made instead. It was delicious, full of colour & a little spicy! Yum!

IMG_1574.JPG

I hope you’ve had a fun week cooking too ! I love taking pictures of my creations, I hope you enjoy looking at them!
