‘LOCAL IS THE NEW BLACK’ ……….FEATURING MAGGIE PANA OF KREO HOME!

Unless you have been under a rock for the last month, you will know that I have been blogging about the Kreo Home ‘Local is the new Black’ campaign.

sdgsdgs

Let me tell you a little bit more……

It all started about 8 weeks ago when Maggie Pana, the brains behind this fabulous giveaway, posted just a few words on her business page on IG….’Local is the new Black’ …little did she know what was about to unfold! I just popped my hand up and said ‘I will help where I can’…..wow…what a month it’s been!

The whole idea was to give local creatives a chance to get their name ‘out there’ through the power of social media and to be part of a huge giveaway promoting local businesses! The response was nothing Maggie & I could have ever imagined!

I think I could hear the ‘Oh my god’s’ and ‘No Way’s’ from Maggie’s home across town!

She was soon answering emails and receiving products week after week…until she realised that she was going to have to split up all the donated prizes , over 70+ of them….into a series of giveaways spanning over 4 weeks totalling approx. $5000 …how fantastic! I have also blogged about each business, what a creative bunch they were!

She wanted to use her business as a platform to promote ‘Buy Local’……. What a great idea, we all have to start somewhere don’t we! She had her own stockists donating goods for the giveaway, as well as people she had never heard of before!

Now a bit about Maggie’s business….Kreo Home! (www.kreohome.com.au)

It’s an online homewares and lifestyle store run by Maggie and her husband Chris Pana. Both of them share a keen eye for fun, quirky, edgy, eclectic & hard to find homewares & lifestyle products. (There’s that word again …eclectic!) She has a huge passion for buying local design, but also loves a lot of talent from across the shores.

They founded ‘Kreo Home’, just over 2 years ago, out of a want to showcase local talent, and in particular wares that are not mass produced.

She was sick of seeing the same old cr#p in stores over and over……

They source their products by visiting local design markets, trade fairs, by word of mouth, and of course spending hours upon hours on the internet and social media channels.

We have had many conversations of late discussing how much we would love local handmade products to take over the spotlight from bigger retailers & manufacturers.

It will take time, but together we can make a difference! I personally love visiting the design markets, meeting the makers and talking about the process of how their goods are made.

We as consumers now have so much choice, and I think it’s always great to buy something a bit different don’t you?

Where she can, Maggie likes to stock items with an ‘eco & sustainable focus’. Nowadays, we are all a lot more aware of the ongoing impact of these factors on the environment and the future for our kids.

I was going to ask Maggie what her favourite ‘piece’ in her store was…..but I think that’s just asking for trouble! Firstly, I’d be here for hours writing down all the suppliers, we all know that if they are on her store, she loves them all!

These pictures featured are just a few of my favourites….

Maggie likes to decorate her home in a bit of an ‘eclectic meets contemporary’ look. She likes to mix patterns, texture and pops of colour…Maggie is a rule breaker when it comes to homewares and styling.

IMG_0302_1024x1024

She photographs most of the stock for the store where she can, and is luckily enough to manage it from her home. She has 2 divine little kidlets, who have certainly been keeping her busy of late with lots of ‘Xmas’ concerts and bringing their proud mother to tears. She loves to spend time at the beach as much as she can, to get away from the hustle & bustle of busy city life….bring on the holidays I say!

Maggie to me is a relatively new friend, but one I feel as though I have had for a long long time! We are on the same page on so many levels, have a slightly crazy nature, a little OCD when it comes to Interiors and Homewares and like a Vodka lime & Soda or two! We are both extremely passionate about our businesses, family and my god is she super loyal!

Two Little Ducklings is a design studio showcasing the stunning work of Jacinta Weir.

Based in Melbourne, Jacinta loves bright colours and a bit of fun!

asasas

Both Kreo Home and I love a pop of colour not to mention the odd print, or twenty…. and are big supporters of such a wonderful creative mind!

This small design studio brings to us lots of colour and playful goodness.

00

Her main design focus at the moment is on greeting cards, gift tags, wraps, custom name charts, invitations, birth announcements, prints and children’s educational products.

Being a mother of little ones, Jacinta knows how important it is to have, fun, bright, interactive educational products for our kids. After having her kids, she noticed how few Australian products were in the market, and the rest is history.

asas

Jacinta is also the creative behind my new logo & branding for ‘The K J Collective’…what a cleaver woman. She has an extensive background in corporate branding & design, but has now left that fast pace world, to focus on making all our lives a lot brighter and to have more interactive fun with our families!

All Two Little Ducklings designs are illustrated in-house, printed locally on environmentally friendly FSC certified paper and are finished by hand.

Shakira Lima is the creative mind behind ‘Shakiraaz Homewares’!

If you like pops of colour and the odd pineapple print….look no further! Maggie from Kreo Home is so happy to have a Shakiraaz handmade original part of the ‘Local is the new Black’ giveaway!

Indigo Oatmeal Paisley Cushion

Shakira is a Melbourne based textile designer with a passion for design, printing & Interiors.

Despite having graduated in ‘Science’ at University, she has always been drawn towards ‘the arts’ from a young age. She was always encouraged by her parents to hand paint, sketch & create…thank goodness for that! She comes from a very creative family, all of whom paint, how fabulous! Sounds like the creative talents run in the family,

Handscreenprinted & handblockprinted linen cushions & planter baskets

While in Australia, Shakira studied Textile design at RMIT and then decided that this would be her career, as she couldn’t stand the thought of being stuck in a laboratory day in – day out.

She has always wanted to start her own business and has created a brand that has a happy mixture of my love from her 2 cultures, Indian and Australian. She also wanted to offer the public products that are totally handcrafted, with an environmental focus. She block prints each fabric piece and sews each cushion! I love her colorful cushions and the fabric baskets are fabulous!

Her most recent range is completely designed & printed here in Melbourne.

Ruchi Rai Art – Kreo Home ‘Local is the new black’ Giveaway!

Ruchi Rai is an Abstract Artist based in Sydney, Australia. Her journey with colour and design started in India, where she completed a 3 year Diploma in Textile Design.

While living in India, after finishing her Art and Design qualifications, she gained some experience of ‘free hand’ painting on silk and chiffon sarees, it was apparently just like ‘creating an art on a large canvas’.

Kenai lake

Unfortunately, due to family commitments, she was unable to pursue her dream of becoming an Artist and had to return to work in a Bank, and was there for almost 20 years. However, with the support of her wonderful husband, she entered the world of Art and Design once again only about 3 years ago…how fabulous!

The time had come for Ruchi to get her creative juices flowing again, all she could think about at work was colour, art, paint….so she quit her job and became full-time artist. How exciting, scary and brave would that have been all at the same time!

In 2011- 2012 she completed a ‘Cert IV in Colour & Design’ and 2012-2013 further studied ‘Surface Design’ from ISCD ( International School of Colour & Design) in North Sydney….a course I am currently, slowing making my way through as well.

Lake Hillier

She mainly work with acrylics, washes and sometimes ink. She believes Art is a way to express feelings and emotions that we feel towards people, nature and this beautiful earth that we live in.

She believes in ‘spontaneity’ and ‘free flow’ of strokes and her affiliation with Indian textiles is reflective in her art which feature bold colours, textures and pattern.

Lake Naivasha

Ruchi now works from a small studio at home which is her haven!

Thanks for being part of the Kreo Home ‘Local is the new black’ giveaway….your work is amazing!

Please pop over to her website Ruchi Rai Art….. I think your works are stunning!

Meina Farala Home – Kreo Home ‘Local is the new Black!’

Lindsey Denham is the owner, creator and curator of the beautiful online store known as Meina Farala Home’.

j (4 of 5)

She has a passion for unique beautiful art, something that is certainly clear by looking at her amazing etsy store and her stunning creations!

‘Meina Farala Home’ was only launched earlier this year, after years of Lindsey being inspired by many different Art mediums, and the love of intricate hand crafted works.

 j (2 of 5)

Lindsey specialises in hand making amazing colourful concrete pieces for the home; planters, decorative pieces, and candle holders. With a true love for experimenting with materials and colours, I can see a much wider range of products will be available in the near future…….something I’m pretty happy about!  The process of making these amazing concrete pieces is rather involved and I certainly take my ‘hat off’ to anyone with that patience!

 j (1 of 1)-14

All pieces are individually handmade and decorated, no two pieces ever being exactly the same. I’m a bit of a ‘plant killer’ at the moment, so a succulent in a planter as beautiful as this is right up my alley!

j (1 of 1)-11

Kreo Home are so happy to have such beautiful pieces part of the Week 3 Giveaway, worth over $1200… for the ‘Local is the new black’ campaign!  Have you entered yet?

Over the last 2 years, they have become a lot more pattern and textile design focused. Their focus is mostly on colour & pattern in developing the new upcoming ranges. The sell wholesale to the trade locally and have an online retail store as well. The materials they mostly use for their creations are; organic cotton, raw linen, upholstery fabric, covered buttons, texture specialty papers and cardboards.

Their design inspiration comes mostly from everyday life; colour, food, flowers, landscape…the list goes on. I can also see a clear love of vintage patterns and décor, a big soft spot of mine! I do also spot the odd Scandi influence as well.
